I need a car that runs on the smell of an oily rag!
What's the go with petrol for God's sake!!!
The choice seems to be, "Do we eat or shall we put petrol in the car?"
Messed around with the idea of buying a smaller shit box to get around in, but we have hit a bit of a brick wall, so we have to rethink this whole thing.
As much as I love my Volvo it is a gas guzzler.
So do I spend more money to save money?????
It would have been so much easier if I had won that $58 million.......
Meanwhile, the man made the brave move and notifed work that he was intending to return on July 1st - then he curled up into a ball in the corner of the bedroom.
Going back to work will be be a stress filled experience, it isn't a nice place to be, and after one and a half years off work....it's certainly hard to go back.
Round and round and round we go.......

poor hubby and poor old volvo- at least you can paint apples !
Erk!
We face a similar dilemma, ww, the biggest problem being, we don't have any cash to replace existing tank (aka lovely falcon), but with 120k round trip to work (that's just me, Beloved does about 70 in his car), we need to do something. Then there's 50ks round trip everytime the kids need to go to work (X2) and/or sport/hobbies as well. Planning, planning....There is no public transport as an option, either. Even if we could 'borrow', there's no extra $$$ to pay back anyway.
cyndy you are in a horror situation - truely its like pissing your money away. I am so close to just going and getting an extra loan to pay another car off - but, same as you...we have enough to pay of already.
The thing is, I am currently paying about $90 per week to do just running around stuff and hubby calculated it out that with a 1.4 litre car it would be costing me ABOUT $3O - $4O. And its just going to get worse. I would hate to think what your petrol costs are..heavens...good luck. I am going to start asking for lifts.w.w.
know the feeling, in the same boat...do you oayout to save in the long run? plus we're thinking that maybe going back to one car? or will i go stir crazy...hmm legs will get a work out for sure...not such a bad thnig!!!
should read payout...silly keyboard
For the first time ever, I spent a shade over $100 fuelling up the tank yesterday.. and it was a "cheap" day.... With the miles that we do, it is really horrific to add up, so we don't. Suffice to say that our car was purchased new in 2003, and it has 172000kls on it.....
We actually run 3 cars if you include GG's.....
trickle, trickle, gush goes our money. Rego for 2 next month, the the other one in August.
I know where you are with this,
thankfully we downgraded a few years ago and both have smaller cars - if my Magna hadn't died back then I would've been spending twice as much on fuel.
When Big A was on day work he was travelling 50 - 60 kms just one way to work. Now he's on shift, and only works 3 - 4 days per week - and is in a car club it's better.
We have 3 cars - not cos we're extravagant but in addition to the two usual running around cars we also have a guzzling 4WD - which in all honesty wouldn't be worth selling (we'd lose too much money on it), we use it for towing, getting wood etc - neither of our other cars would tow our trailer!
It's frustrating though isn't it...

I agree - my hubby has a Rodeo, which is great for buying bts for the house like timber or taking out garbage, all the huge stuff that saves on having to get a trailer to do it but it takes as much fuel as mine...while he has been at home we have saved on his fuel consumption, but like I said when he goes back to work next month he will have to fill to get to work and back every day.
I hate to think.....w.w.
